Star Wars: The Old Republic has announced an official launch date.  Bioware says that the game will be on store shelves in North America on December 20th and in Europe on the 22nd.  You can guarantee that more than one gamer will be reserving copies and not waiting until Christmas to open and play!

Bioware’s Co-Founder/General Manager Greg Zeschuk tells fans: “We appreciate the patience of the millions of fans who have been waiting for the game’s release. When we launch this groundbreaking MMO with world class storytelling this holiday season, we hope you will agree that it was worth the wait.”

Game subscription plans will include three options:

  1. Month-by-month at $14.99
  2. 3 months (quarterly) at $13.99/month or $41.97
  3. 6 months (bi-annual) at $12.99/month or $77.94

All players who pre-order the game will be given a redeem code to get access to the game for free, ahead of everyone else!

Meanwhile, Blizzard has announced that its upcoming title Diablo III will be delayed.  The game made headlines when the news broke that it would allow real world money in-game for auction house transactions.  This stirred a lot of controversy amongst players and gamers, but Blizzard seems intent on testing this new paradigm to see if it pays off and increases game revenues.  Their various franchises, including their flagship game World of Warcraft, are all seeing dropping subscription rates.

Diablo III was officially release in early 2012 rather than later this year.
