LoL Up to 4 Million Players Per Day, 30 Million Total

League of Legends developers at Riot Games have announced that the game’s player base has grown to thirty million registered users with over

4 million playing on any given day.  Further explaining the numbers, the developers also say that of the 30 million registered, 11.4 million are playing at least monthly, so the number of “dead” users is relatively small.

This comes as the company prepares to launch Season 2 for LOL.  This makes Riot Games the largest eSports prize pool owner.  How?  The Season 2 launch will feature over five million dollars in prize money, including the $2 million worldwide tournament.

The game is in a unique position as both a fantasy RPG-style MMO and an eSports competitive genre member.  It’s likely this unique combination that makes the game popular amongst players.

All in all, League of Legends is gearing up to have another great year even as other games in the genre face losing numbers and dwindling player bases.
