The former CMO of CCP Games, Ryan Dancey, has moved on to begin a new MMO development studio called GolbinWorks. Dancey has formed a small team of developers and is hard at work on a new MMO based on the semi-popular Pathfinder tabletop RPG game series.
The team’s goal is to bring the “table top experience to MMO players” in the form of a sandbox-style MMO with players exploring the Three Rivers areas of the Pathfinder story from 2009.
“Pathfinder Online is a hybrid sandbox/theme park-style MMO” says the GoblinWorks website. The RPG will allow characters to explore, develop, and dominate the River Kingdoms in the no-man’s-land on the edge of wilderness. The game will have both pre-set character roles/classes and an open system in which players can use an archetype system to go beyond those standardized options and create hybrid classes of their own.
User-created content and items will also be marketable in-game, creating a simple economy. They can also found or dominate settlements in the world and play both versus environment and other players (PvE, PvP) in a game that will be “a bit different from your traditional fantasy MMO.”
The design process has only just begun and GoblinWorks has not yet set a date for release into beta or live.
