Tomorrow, says Red 5 Studios, the beta of the Firefall MMO will go dark with servers shutting down on the 18th for 24 hours in protest of SOPA legislation in the U.S. Congress that would shut down free speech on the Internet.
REd 5 is taking it one step further, according to Mark Kern, CEO:
“We are not only shutting down on the 18th, but we are also canceling our E3 presence to protest the ESA’s support of SOPA. It is repugnant that SOPA would give corporations the power to determine what Americans and see and know on the Internet. Protecting IP is a valid concern, but SOPA throws away our first amendment in pursuit of a flawed and ineffective approach.” “We can’t do this alone. We need more developers and game press to join us.”
Discussion of the shut down and protest is live on the Firefall Facebook page.
