Final Fantasy XIV Resuming Subscription Fee in January

The development and marketing teams for Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) have announced that the subscription fee for players will resume on January 6th.  These fees will be about one-third of normal until the release of FFXIV 2.0, slated for release in September 2012 to PS3.

The discounted subscription fees are laid out in a chart the team supplied and players can choose their plan and implement it anytime between now and January 6.  Charges will not incur until that date.  FFXIV will obviously not be going free to play (F2P).

The chart (above) details the following:

The Basic Service Fee (fee to play the game) is $6.99 per 30 days paid monthly or $5.99 and $4.99 if paid quarterly or every six months, respectively.  The Basic Service does not include any character slots, which are also required to play.  Character Fees are $3.00 per character per 30 days.

This effectively raises the fees to $9.99, $8.99, and $7.99 per month, depending on how far in advance the fees are paid.

It’s unclear why they chose such a convoluted way to charge $9.99 a month.
