Defiance Unveiled at E3

At E3 today, Trion Worlds revealed some introductory details on its newest venture – a transmedia, cross- platform FPS MMOG endeavor – called Defiance.  Details released today were geared towards availability, noting that the game will be available on XBox 360, Playstion 3, and PC.

Today’s information is a follow-up to Trion Worlds June 2 official announcement of Defiance, which also revealed that the developer has been partnered with NBC Universal-owned SyFy Channel to build and publish an original television series that synergizes and directly influences both the show and Defiance. Trion Worlds has also promised that gamers and in-game events will directly impact the plot and direction of the show.

According to the LA Times, SyFy Channel President David Howe had this to say about the project:

“This is the Holy Grail for us, without a doubt. This is groundbreaking, and I don’t say that lightly.”

Howe assures subscribers will get show content more than once a week, but how often is still unknown.

“A television show that is on once a week isn’t enough. The fans today want the experience to go beyond that. For example, we can tell them that there will be an alien invasion at a certain place in the game, at a certain time, and to be there with all their friends and be ready. The outcome depends on them. And then that battle will be part of the universe in the show.”

Trion Worlds also revealed that the television show will be written by Rockne S. O’Bannon, who is best known for writing Warehouse 13, Alien Nation, seaQuest DSV, and Farscape.
