Dungeons & Dragons Online (developed by Turbine) has given a developer’s tour to select media representatives to showcase the next major upgrade known as Upgrade 12 for Eberron Unlimited.
The new update is full of new dungeons and includes the Vaults of the Artificers, which is challenge-based system rather than story-based as is the usual for DDO. This is obviously an experiment by Turbine to see if a more diversified MMO experience can attract those players who are not as RPG-driven.
Another addition is the scalability of the dungeons themselves. These change according to the average level and size of the party participating, allowing for multiple play options and variations, giving them a more replayable option.
The new dungeons are all time-based, an obvious cater to the game’s growing number of workday adults and more casual players. The exception to this being Kobald Island, which is a large map addition rather than a dungeon.
All in all, the developers are showing off what will prove to be a huge expansion and (they hope) player-grabbing addition to DDO.
