DC Universe Online Goes Offline Under Massive Server Load

According to Sony Online Entertainment, the recent long outage of DC Universe Online is due to the game seeing over 120,000 new users in less than a week after going free to play (F2P).  The massive number of new users have put the U.s. game servers under heavy burden and lead to the development team taking them down to address recurrent problems.

According to the executive producer for DC Universe, the server problems have not found a fix, but new code has been inserted to watch them and alert developers to things that could pinpoint the issue.  The game has been returned to online status, but players are describing lag issues and some connectivity problems, especially for those new players hoping to download the game client install.  Forums are alight with complaints.

New information from Sony Online says that another outage may happen this weekend, as they close servers to re-tool.  No dates or times have been issued for those outages.
