DC Universe Goes F2P on Tuesday

DC Universe Online will be going free to play (F2P) on Tuesday, November 1.  Sony Online announced the change during a live developer chat on Friday.  The announcement was followed by the rollout of a new website for the game.

The game will have three player levels: Free, Premium, and Legendary.  Each has a corresponding payment tier and bonuses to go with it.

Free Players will play entirely for free and have the following:

  1. 2 character slots
  2. 28 inventory slots
  3. 0 auction slots
  4. 12 bank slots
  5. Cannot trade
  6. Max 1,500 in-game currency
  7. 6 text chat messages per 30 seconds
  8. Cannot send items in mail
  9. One free vault ticket
  10. Can join Players Leagues

Most of these can be upgraded with one-time purchases, of course.

Premium Players spend $5 or more per month on in-game upgrades and get:

  1. 6 character slots
  2. 42 inventory slots
  3. 5 auction slots
  4. 24 bank slots
  5. Can trade items
  6. 2,000 max in-game currency
  7. Full proximity chat, 6 text chat messages per 30 seconds
  8. Can send text and items in mail
  9. One free Vault ticket every 3 days
  10. Can join Players Leagues

These can, obviously, be upgraded as well, for the most part.

Legendary Players pay $14.99/month and receive:

  1. Free access to all game expansions
  2. 16 character slots
  3. 63 inventory slots
  4. 20 auction slots
  5. 48 bank slots
  6. Can trade items and/or cash
  7. Unlimited in-game currency
  8. Unlimited chat
  9. Can send text, items and cash in the mail
  10. Free vault ticket every day
  11. Can for or join Players Leagues

  1. [...] DCU claims that this is due to their “Free to Play Your Way” model of access.  It involves three tiers of play: Free, Premium, and Legendary.  Each with larger levels of access than the last and each with a higher monthly premium.  (More on this here) [...]
