DarkCryo Announces Firefly Universe Online

DarkCryo Entertainment announced that an MMO spinoff of the Fox television series, Firefly, is currently under development.  The title, Firefly Universe Online, will begin the story where the television series left off, inserting the plotline and characters in a playable MMO format.

According to the press release, the game will feature multiple factions, guest appearances from the original Firefly cast, open world exploration of planets and cutting edge role playing mechanics.

Since humans are the only race in the Firefly world, players will be able to choose between four factions: Alliance, Browncoats, Reavers and Megacorp.  Each faction will have specific racial abilites and bonuses.

Five planetary systems will be available to explore, with the central White Sun serving as the main hub for the Alliance faction.  According to the game’s website, the fringe planetary systems, such as the Blue Sun system, do not reap the benefits of Alliance government aid and typical societal perks.

The game’s site also details some of the original cast that will be appearing in the game.  Characters such as Badger, Saffron, the Crew of Serenity and Blue Hand Operatives will play interactive roles with player characters.

A release date for the game has not yet been set, and DarkCryo is in the process of getting an official endorsement from 20th Century Fox.  For more information, check out the Firefly Universe Online website.
