City of Heroes: Freedom to Launch this Year

Today, Paragon Studios announced that it will be rolling out a revamped version of City of Heroes called Freedom.  As the title implies, the remake will be a free-to-play version of the game.  Players can choose to play for free, gaining access to content and standard features of the game.  Free players will get an opportunity to play a new update, Issue 21: Convergence.

Issue 21 packs in the First Ward co-op zone, gripped in mystical conflict, as well as the Time Manipulation Power Set, the IDF and Defense Costume Sets, and the Underground Incarnate Trial Signature story arcs, free with VIP players’ subscriptions, let you fight alongside iconic Heroes and Villains in story arcs that make a difference in the City of Heroes universe.

Free subscription players can level up to 50, explore 45 zones, access to eight different classes, and the ability to purchase items from the in-game store.  Free players will also have a choice between the 15 current servers available to players now, and will be able to interact with paid subscribers.  VIP players will have an option to play on a VIP-only server.

The free subscription does  now allow access to the in-game mail system and Super Groups.  Local and Team chat channels will be available, VIP players will have access to all channels.
