RIFT Trion Worlds has been compromised, with a database of user names, encrypted passwords, email addresses, billing addresses, and some credit card information being exposed and likely copied.
The unauthorized access was noticed today and the Trion site taken down immediately. Developers released a public notice about the hacking and subsequent steps taken to fix it. The game is still live and active.
When the website goes live again, password changes will be required of all players. The information stolen was not game-specific, but did contain personal information from players and their website/forum accounts. The credit card information stolen was first and last four digit and expiration dates, but did not include the full card number.
Although this means that credit card fraud is not likely, Trion Worlds representatives are asking players to pay special attention to their credit card accounts to be sure they are not compromised.
