Battlestar Galactica Reaches 5 Million Players

BigPoint has announced that Battlestar Galactica Online has surpassed the five million registered players mark, making it one of the biggest game launches in history.  BGO officially opened its doors in February and has, if these numbers are correct, become one of the largest MMOs in the genre.

According to BigPoint, much of the game’s growth and popularity is due to the heavy engagement of developers with players, building the game to suit the best game play.

To celebrate and give a thank you to its players, BGO is giving Colonial and Cylon players new Fleet Recon ships to utilize.  Basic models of both of these will be availble to players later this month at an as-yet unnamed Cubit price.

Of course, five million registered players does not necessarily mean five million active players.  Still, the game has momentum and draws on a huge fan base of Battlestar Galactica fans from the TV show, movies, toys, etc.
