A new MMO with an RPG background, ELs, has debuted. The game is pet-centric, meaning it’s less about developing a character as it is about developing that character’s pet(s). In fact, in this new game developed by EyaSoft, pets are the primary component of the game’s play.
Pet-centered games like this are often the subject of ridicule by hardcore MMO players and most RPGists are uninterested in this type of game play. ELs, however, promises to be something different from the usual “pet game.”
First off, the game is the sequel to the Luna series, coming after Luna Online and Luna Plus, and was first announced last year. The development as moved to Taiwan and made a splash at this year’s G-Star 2011. It will begin beta launch in the first quarter of 2012 (just a couple of months from now).
The EL is ELs is the partner to the player’s character. These pets are fully customizable just as any toon would be, allowing for personality, appearance, and statistical changes to be made during game play. There are four classes of Els, each with different battle and skill combinations.
Caring for your character’s pet(s) is easy and mostly automated, with players mainly being concerned with development of skills and abilities rather than mundane tasks like feeding. This sets it apart from a lot of other pet-based MMOs.
The ELs game itself is a fantasy Manga mashup in a rich, open evironment. So the toons and NPCs are Japanese big-eyed in appearance, the world itself is mostly generic medieval fantasy in feel.
Battle can be both a solo and team effort, and quests are the usual MMO RPG fare ranging from battle-centered to puzzle solving.
