EVE Online : Which EVE Ship to Captain?

EVE Online is a science fiction MMORPG which takes place in a vast outer space setting. Featuring over 7,000 star systems for players to freely explore EVE Online offers an incredibly large and beautiful universe for players to set foot in to. Perhaps setting sail would be a more appropriate phrase, considering exploration of the game is done via personal space shuttles. EVE Online ships are divided in to four class sizes; small, medium, large and extra large.

Small class size ships include Frigates and Destroyers. Frigates are simply small and very mobile gunboats which are essentially a solid ship choice for beginners yet can still prove deadly in the hands of a seasoned veteran. The small size of Frigates and their mobility offer solid protection from large size ships and in large numbers can prove to be quite deadly. However, their weakness comes from entering combat with other small sized ships. Destroyers are also classified as a small size ship, they serve a much different role however than your basic frigate. Offering a higher number of customization slots the Destroyer can potentially become a valuable salvaging ship.

Medium sized EVE ships refer to Cruisers and Battlecruisers, both of which are able to be customized to fit specific roles. Cruisers are potentially only as good as their captain. In the right hands these ships can potentially handle any situation as long as they’re prepared for it. They are a solid combination of survivability, function and cost. Battlecruisers are a slightly larger relative of the Cruiser. The Battlecruiser is capable of using seven to eight weapons at once, making it a threat to opposing ships that should happen to underestimate it.

Battleships make up the large sized class by themselves. Battleships live up to their name as combat vessels through and through. Although capable of a frightening show of offensive power, the Battleship is difficult to master and an expensive investment. The most threatening counter to such a large ship however, is the agile and deadly small sized Frigate.

Last but not least are the capital class star ships which occupy the extra large class. Included among these behemoth ships are the Carriers, Supercarriers, Dreadnoughts and the Titans. Carriers and Supercarriers focus on large mobile transport ships. The Dreadnoughts are incredibly powerful space siege crafts designed for attacked designated stations. Titans are the largest of the large and are massive all purpose mobile battle stations.

EVE ships come in various sizes and shapes, each fulfilling a specific purpose. Players interact with one another on a massive scale in this game more often than not, so which ship you choose can depend heavily on your available funding or team situation. Regardless of which of the EVE Online ships you decide to captain there will always be a fun and strategic element to the game in which to find enjoyment.
